Our 'Boat Family'

We've always believed that one of the successes in running Morvargh lies in the strength of our 'boat family.'

We've always believed that one of the successes in running Morvargh lies in the strength of our 'boat family.' This unique approach is reflected in every aspect of our operations, from our dedication to our volunteers to the growth of our trainees.

Here, we are not just a crew; we are a tight-knit community bound by a shared love for sailing and an unwavering commitment to helping young people achieve their potential!

Our Amazing Volunteers

We couldn’t run Morvargh Sailing Project without the dedication, belief and support of a fantastic group of volunteers. Each volunteer gives their time and energy to support our mission: ‘Using Sail Training to Inspire & Change Lives’. From our young Watch Leaders to the Skipper they are all passionate about sailing and helping those aboard do their best. Every team member is DBS (Disclosure and Baring Service) checked every 3 years, is working toward RYA Qualifications or has them, and we all undertake training annually aboard Helen Mary R.

Matt & Vicky

We're Matt and Vicky, the husband and wife team at the helm of the Morvargh Sailing Project. At our core, we're passionate about sailing, adventure, and sharing unforgettable experiences with young people. While we're serious about safety and seamanship, we're also known for our fun-loving spirit and love for the sea. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a first-time explorer, we're thrilled to welcome you aboard and share the magic of the maritime world with you.

Meet Matt: with an extensive background in sailing and a knack for causing carnage on the foredeck, Matt is the skipper who keeps the ship on course. He's often the instigator of games of hide & seek, silly “if you could be a biscuit, which one would you be” conversations at 4 a.m. and a not-so-secret addict for a Haribo gummy bear!

Meet Vicky: she is the heart of the project and is responsible for coordinating the crew, managing logistics, and keeping the spirit of adventure alive. Her love for photography ensures we quite often capture some fantastic moments. Vicky always loves a morale-boosting singsong on her watches and keeps Matt's gummy bear addiction in check!

What makes us special

While the call of the sea is our passion, we both have careers on dry land. Morvargh is a labour of love we manage during our spare time (until the Project can employ us). We believe that the best adventures happen when you're genuinely invested in them, and our dedication to the Project shines through in everything we do.

Running Morvargh with just the two of us is an exhilarating journey, but it can sometimes be quite stressful. We find ourselves constantly juggling various responsibilities and wearing multiple hats, which requires us to be excellent "plate spinners" from coordinating schedules and maintaining Helen Mary R to managing budgets and ensuring everyone's safety. This, in itself, is a significant task. There are moments when we feel like we're on the brink of being overwhelmed, but it's in these very moments that a young person, or parent drops us a line and reminds us why it's all worth it.

Our ability to balance these plates comes from a deep commitment to our mission. We believe in the transformative power of sailing and its positive impact on people's lives. This unwavering dedication propels us forward even when the waters get rough and the stresses accumulate.

Morvargh Sailing Project is more than just a job to us; It's about providing unique experiences and opportunities to those who might not otherwise have the chance to set sail. It's about fostering personal growth, building resilience, and instilling a sense of teamwork and camaraderie in the individuals who come aboard Helen Mary R.

While there are undoubtedly moments of tension and stress, there is an equal measure of fulfilment and joy from watching our participants grow, learn, and connect with the sea and themselves.

In the end, Morvargh Sailing Project is a testament to what two passionate individuals can achieve when they are willing to wear many hats, spin many plates, and remain steadfast in their commitment to making a difference through the power of the sea.

Our commitment to fun, safety, inclusivity, and the joy of exploration sets us apart. Whether you're looking to help your child learn the ropes of sailing or help them achieve their full potential Morvargh Sailing Project is an unforgettable and life-changing adventure.
