Our Mission

Our Mission

We believe the sea has a way of bringing out the best in people. Our mission is to harness that power, using Sail Training to unlock confidence, resilience, and self-belief in young people from every background.

A brilliant experience that will never be forgotten, seeing so many amazing things and meeting so many amazing people, a time of a lifetime.

Using Sail Training to Inspire and Change Lives

We believe the sea has a unique ability to bring out the best in people. We harness that power through Sail Training, helping young people build confidence, resilience, and self-belief, whatever their background or starting point.

Our mission is simple. We use Sail Training to inspire and change lives by giving young people meaningful responsibility, real challenge, and the support they need to grow.

Sailing places young people into an environment where effort matters, teamwork is essential, and every individual has a role to play. When the sails are hoisted, and the land fades away, life becomes immediate and real.

Aboard Helen Mary R, young people discover strengths they didn’t know they had. They learn to communicate clearly, to persevere when things are difficult, and to understand how their actions affect others. These lessons are lived, felt, and remembered. Growth comes from being trusted, encouraged, and believed in.

The sea does not judge, no matter their background, confidence, or prior experience. It responds to effort, cooperation, and care for others. This creates a level playing field where young people can step forward, contribute, and belong.

Every watch stood, every sail hoisted, every meal cooked, and every decision made on board is an opportunity to learn resilience, leadership, and teamwork. These qualities endure long after a voyage ends and carry forward into school, work, and life.

Parents and partners trust us with responsibility; we honour that trust by delivering structured, purposeful experiences that place young people at the centre. We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to experience challenge in a safe and supportive setting.

We want to see a world where every young person, regardless of circumstance, can access experiences that unlock potential and open doors. From our home port of Fowey, Cornwall, we work with schools, youth groups, and individuals across the South West and beyond. Our vision is for our voyages to be more than time at sea; they should be journeys of discovery.

Young people should leave with confidence, connection, and a sense of possibility. They should return ashore with pride in what they have achieved and belief in what they can go on to do.
