Our volunteer selection process is designed with the utmost care, especially as we are responsible for the well-being and development of young people. If you applying as a sailing volunteer, we prioritise not only sailing experience but also your ability to positively impact youth development outcomes. This approach ensures we choose the best candidates to join our team.

To volunteer in a sailing capacity, you must be over 18 years of age and hold, at a minimum, the RYA Day Skipper qualification or be able to demonstrate the following basic sailing prerequisites: at least 5 days at sea, 150 miles sailed, and 4 night hours onboard a yacht, along with navigation and theory knowledge to the Day Skipper Shorebased level.

The volunteer process is as follows:

Apply online: complete and submit this application form.
Application review: we will review your application. If successful, you will be invited to an informal interview
Interview: during the interview, you must bring the ID documents you will use in your DBS (Disclosure & Baring Service) check.
If successful at the interview we will start the DBS process with the RYA
DBS processing: the RYA will process your DBS check.

If you are applying to volunteer as a member of the Afterguard or Sea Staff you will need to complete these additional steps

Sailing assessment: once your DBS is returned, you will be invited to a sailing assessment.
Joining the afterguard: if you pass the sailing assessment, you will be welcomed as a member of our afterguard.

I have provided all relevant details of any medical, physical or other condition that might affect my performance, safety or well-being and that of other sea staff, embarked trainees, or passengers.

I consent to be given emergency medical treatment, including but not limited to the administration of dental treatment, anaesthesia, and blood transfusion, should it be necessary and authorise the vessel's Captain to give such permission as may be required for such treatment to proceed.

I understand the DBS process is administered by the Association of Sail Training Organisations (ASTO) and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) on behalf of Morvargh Sailing Project.
